Health Expert says Ebola crisis in West Africa is overshadowing malaria treatment

A leading malaria control expert Dr Nafo-Traoré has said efforts to contain the disease may be jeopardised by the Ebola crisis.

Dr Fatoumata Nafo-Traoré, who heads the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership, expressed worry that the attention of health workers have shifted from malaria to Ebola.

She said children's wards which used to be full of malaria patients are becoming ghost areas.

According to Dr Nafo-Traoré, in 2012, malaria killed seven thousand people in the three countries worst hit by Ebola.

The disease caused almost four thousand deaths in Sierra Leone in 2012 - as well as around two thousand deaths in Liberia and approximately one thousand in Guinea.

Dr Nafo-Traoré said she feared that recent gains in preventing malaria could be threatened by the crisis, now that the three countries are wrestling with the Ebola virus.

The high price our bodies pay for high fashion

Six-inch stilettos, over-sized heavy handbags, toothpick-tight jeans -- the average woman is no stranger to suffering for fashion.

In the "Look At Me" culture we live in, it is no wonder who you wear is just as important as what you wear. However, instead of designer labels, there are some trends today that should come with warning labels.

Women may pay a high price for fashion, and I'm not talking about the amount of money those designer bags and shoes cost -- I'm talking about the price of your health. Certain fashion trends can take their toll if you don't take steps to correct them (or at the very least recognize them).

Super-rich oligarchs are taking their vast resources and investing them in the safe haven of London property - with more than £600million spent in the capital in the past three years.
A mixture of traditional reasons combined with increased terrorism and the outbreak of Ebola is said to be behind the dramatic influx of African money to the capital.
While African buyers only account for 1.5 per of transactions in the 'ultra prime' London market, they make up five per cent of sales by value - up from two per cent. This is by typically spending between £15million and £25million on each home.
The recent Ebola epidemic and continued terrorism from groups such as Boko Haram has resulted in an increase in buyers in recent months.

Mali rushes to track Ebola after toddler dies

KAYES, Mali (AP) — After 2-year-old Fanta Kone's father died in southern Guinea, the toddler's grandmother took her from the forested hills where the Ebola outbreak first began months ago to bring her home to Mali. It wasn't long, though, before the little girl started getting nosebleeds.

By the time the pair made their way back more than 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) to the heat-baked town of Kayes several days later, the toddler had a high fever and was vomiting blood. Doctors swiftly diagnosed Fanta with Ebola, but she soon succumbed to the virus already blamed for killing nearly 5,000 people in the region. Her grandmother, quarantined with a couple dozen others, could only watch from a distance in an isolation tent over the weekend as health workers in hazmat suits prepared the tiny corpse for burial.

Family Spend Over £5000 On Dresses & Pageant Fees Just For One-year-old To Be A Queen

Her father Anton, who works in the military, said: 'I thought the Beyonce routine was inappropriate when Steph first told me about it, but when I saw her on the stage doing it, it worked out quite well'
She only learnt to walk five months ago, but beauty queen Bobbi Boyden is already strutting her stuff on stage at pageants, Dailymail reports. The 19-month-old from Essex has been described as a 'diva' by her mother, Stephanie.

Mrs Boyden said,  'Bobbi's like a little Beyonce, a little madam really. She loves the attention of being up on stage and she screams to get up there.' The family has spent £5,000 on elaborate dresses and entry fees in the past three months.

DOCTOR:Quarantine on health care workers for Ebola can have unintended consequences

WASHINGTON — Mandatory 21-day quarantines on health care workers returning from Ebola-ravaged West Africa, like those put in place by three states, can have the unintended consequence of discouraging them from volunteering, a top federal health official said Sunday.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that as a physician and scientist, he would have recommended against a quarantine.

"The best way to protect us is to stop the epidemic in Africa, and we need those health care workers so we do not want to put them in a position where it makes it very, very uncomfortable for them to even volunteer to go." he said.

Churches Now Forced to Pay for Abortions in California

California Orders Churches To Fund Abortions—Or Else
California’s Department of Managed Health Care has ordered all insurance plans in the state to immediately begin covering elective abortion. Not Plan B. Not contraceptives. Elective surgical dismemberment abortion.

Churches inevitably fall under the “all” category. In a bit of sad irony, churches in California are exempt from having to fund chemical abortions. This leaves California churches in the illogical and impossible position of being free to exclude contraceptives from their health plan for reasons of religious conscience but required to provide their employees with abortion coverage.

Religious groups are battling the state of California over whether employee health insurance plans require them to pay for abortions and some forms of contraception that some find immoral.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Schools in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv have postponed class trips to Jerusalem this week because of heightened tensions in the city, Tel Aviv officials said Sunday. The municipality of Tel Aviv, Israel's commercial and cultural capital, said it honored a request by parents of 8th grade pupils to postpone a field trip planned for most Tel Aviv schools this week because it included visits to areas where violence recently occurred.

Last week a Palestinian motorist with a history of anti-Israel violence slammed his car into a crowded light rail train station, killing a 3-month-old girl who was a U.S. citizen and wounding eight people. The municipality said pupils were scheduled to visit a nearby site.

Hawaii volcano lava prompts evacuation concerns

HONOLULU (AP) — Flowing lava from an erupting volcano could soon force dozens of residents of an area in Hawaii to flee their homes.

Authorities on Saturday told them to prepare for a possible evacuation in the next three to five days as the molten rock oozed across a country road and edged closer to homes.

The flow was about 35 yards wide and moving northeast at about 10 yards per hour.
