We Can’t Delete Names From Register Based On People's Emotion - EC Boss

The Electoral Commission has maintained that it is powerless in deleting names from the country’s voters’ register merely on emotion expressed by a group or an individual.
In having a register that can be described as credible and acceptable to all, the decision that can be taken to arrive that must be grounded in law, Chairman of the EC Charlotte Osei observed.

Aside what has been prescribed by law, the Commission cannot pander to the emotions of individuals or groups to alter the register, she remarked.

Ghanaians Continue To Die...Minors Come Of Age Everyday; New Voters Register Unnecessary!


In an attempt to dismiss the New Patriotic Party’s call for the compilation of a new voter roll, General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress has said that looking at the rate Ghanaians die, it would be highly impossible for the Electoral Commission to carry out the assignment.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia spoke on behalf of the NDC at the EC forum on voters' register organized at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

EC Wants Reform Of Political Parties


The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that if Ghana’s political parties do not reform, no voters register will be appealing to them.

Speaking on Friday at the stakeholders' forum on the voters register in Accra, the chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei, said some of the problems that have been identified with the current register, such as the presence of minors, have been created by political parties.
She noted that minors are lured by political parties and dishonest parents to register in order to secure a political advantage.

Creating New Register Will Cause Security Problems – EC Boss


The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei has stated that Ghana’s security might be threatened by any move to compile a new register.

She has rather backed the surgical method proposed by the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) to audit the alleged bloated voters’ register.

Mass Spraying Exercise Begins In Northern Region : To Prevent Cholera Outbreak

Savana Waste Management Limited, a waste management company based in Tamale, has begun spraying the final waste disposal sites of all 26 districts in the Northern Region to prevent the breeding of flies, the main carriers of the cholera disease-causing bacteria.

The exercise is also targeted at places where flies have a high tendency to breed, including communal container sites and public toilets, to prevent the outbreak of cholera.

Four killed at robbery scene in Gushegu


Four traders have been killed in an armed robbery attack on the Gushegu-Karaga road in the Northern Region.

Six others have sustained various degrees of injuries in the attack that was carried out by four masked men at about 9:30AM Sunday near a village called Shabo in the Karaga District.

The injured have since been taken to hospitals in Gushegu and Karaga for medical attention while the dead have since been deposited at the Gushegu morgue.

Former First Lady Theresa Kufuor turned 80 on Sunday, October 25.
Several personalities, including President John Dramani Mahama, joined her to celebrate day.
Apart from President Mahama, the mother-of-five, was also joined by her husband, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, her brother J.H. Mensah and former Defence Minister, Dr Addo Kufuor to mark the day at her Airport residence.
John Kufuor and Theresa married in 1962. They were Ghana’s First Family between 2001 and 2008.

Ardent NPP member, Barima Sarpong has attacked the First-Vice National Chairman of his party, Mr. Freddie Blay for masterminding the suspension of his immediate past boss, Paul Afoko.

He described Freddie Blay as a “Rebel Leader” in the NPP whose inclusion from the Convention Peoples Party [CPP] is to ‘kill’ the Elephant.

Barima Sarpong gave a stern warning to his acting national chairman on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie - “We will not allow his dictatorship kind of leadership in the NPP. Freddie Blay is a ‘rebel leader’ in the NPP. He did same in the CPP but we won’t allow that in the NPP.”

EC Must Change The Voters Register To Avert Conflicts In 2016 – Chairman Wontumi


The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party [NPP] Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi, has said the Electoral Commission must hear the cry of Ghanaians to change the alleged bloated voters’ register.

According to him, the EC must do so to avert a possible 'war' in the country as seen in some parts of Africa.

Power Crisis To Worsen Again


Ghana’s energy crisis is expected to worsen in the coming days, as the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAGPCo) has threatened to cut gas supply to the Volta River Authority (VRA) due to its indebtedness to WAGPCo and Nigeria Gas.

Managing Director of WAGPCo, Walter Perez, who disclosed this to the media at an emergency press conference yesterday in Accra, said gas supply to VRA would be cut by October 16, 2015 if the Authority fails to meet its debt obligations.

Police Picks Up Sarkodie For Trying To Register A Stolen Vehicle


The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police Service is investigating rapper Sarkodie for trying to register a stolen vehicle.

The rapper was picked up by the police when he went to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Accra to register an Infiniti car they said had been reported stolen.

Robbers Arrested In Kumasi With Military Uniforms And Pump Action Gun (Photos)


The police in Ashanti have arrested five suspected armed robbers on board a taxi cab with four sets of military uniforms and a pump action gun with eight live cartridges.

They are suspected to part of gang of robbers who have been terrorizing small scale mining companies in the Jacobu and Manso Nkwanta areas

The five were arrested at Antoakrom in the Amansie West district of Ashanti Region upon a tip off .

Tension In Presbyterian Church Over Homosexuality


Two Moderators of the Presbyterian Church have been embroiled in a controversy over its relationship with pro-homosexual American Presbyterian Church.

Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey has described the Ghanaian Presbyterian Churches affiliated to the American Presbyterian Church as ‘non- Bible-believing’ and ‘homosexual’.

But his claim has been rejected by the Moderator of the Conference of Ghanaian Presbyterian Churches in North America (CGPCNA) Rev. Yaw Nkansah who insists that the Ghana branch in the USA (PGUSA) operates in line with the values and traditions of Ghana in relation to homosexuality.
