The Peki Government Hospital in the South Dayi district of the Volta region, is in dire need of an Emergency unit to enable it attend swiftly to cases of such nature.
The hospital, which is one of two major health facilities along the eastern corridor road, records a monthly average of 3 major accident cases, according to Dr. Julius Ocloo, medical superintendent of the hospital.
He told Starr News, the absence of a well-equipped emergency unit, is thereby hampering the effective delivery of emergency care to victims, who are put in same wards with other patients.
"Traveling from Accra on eastern corridor road, this hospital is the first point of call in case of any accident but we don't have an emergency unit to cater for such cases.
"Even the two emergency nurses here have to move between wards to attend to victims who are brought in and this is affecting their efficiency."
Dr. Ocloo was speaking to Starr News' Lambert Atsivor during a donation made to the hospital by a group called 'Peki Again' over the weekend.
The group made of up citizens of Peki, domiciled outside the area presented 4 delivery beds and other medical consumables to the hospital, as part of the launch of the association.
The objective of the group is to harness human and material resources towards improving the standard of education, health and social services delivery in the area.
Mr. Theophilus Afenya, President of the group has therefore assured management of the Peki government hospital of its readiness to help mobilize resources towards the setting up of the emergency unit.
