How to treat Stomach ulcers with these home remedies

In case you think you might have an ulcer, have recently been diagnosed with one, or have been living with ulcers for many years, you can get relief with natural remedies that you can easily use at home.

Stomach ulcers occur when the lining of the stomach or upper intestine gets irritated by the harmful effects of stomach acid.

People of any age can get stomach ulcers and women are affected as frequently as men. Often, the victims feel a burning sensation or pain in the area between their chest and belly button.

The pain can last for a few minutes to several hours, depending on the severity of the ulcer. Other symptoms include poor appetite, bloating, heartburn, indigestion, belching, nausea, vomiting and weight loss.

But, even though it is advisable to consult a doctor for long-term relief, here are some home remedies you could try to ease the pain.

Drink enough water
Drinking a glass of water 5 to 6 times in a day can help one cure the problem of stomach ulcer. Regular consumption of water, 1.5 – 2 litres every day can also help in obtaining relief from the pain resulting from stomach ulcer.

Use Coconut
Consumption of coconut water on a daily basis can provide effective results for individuals suffering from stomach ulcer.  Remember to always use coconut oil for cooking in order to ease the pain.

Consume Bananas
Bananas have over the years been considered one of the most effective home remedies for stomach ulcers. This is because they have certain antibacterial compounds that prevents the growth of ulcer-causing H. pylori. Regular consumption of bananas also protects the system by wiping out the acidity of gastric juices. This helps reduce inflammation and also strengthens the stomach lining.

Use Garlic
It is advisable for individuals suffering from the problem of stomach ulcer to increase the consumption of food items containing garlic. Several studies suggest that chewing raw garlic (2 – 3 cloves) with honey (1 teaspoon) on a regular basis can treat the problem of stomach ulcer. Since garlic has antibacterial properties, it is always ideal to consume it raw for best results.

Drink Vegetable Juice
Drinking carrot juice (1 glass) and spinach juice (1/2 glass) can also help in the treatment of stomach ulcer. It is also ideal to drink a mix of carrot juice (200ml), cucumber juice (50ml) and beetroot juice (50ml), studies say. Lemon juice has also been recommended by doctors to ease the pain of stomach ulcer.

Honey
Honey possesses a number of curative powers and has been shown, in particular, to be an effective ulcer treatment for two reasons. First, glucose oxidase, an enzyme in honey, produces hydrogen peroxide, which kills harmful bacteria that can contribute to the development of ulcers. Then there are other floral antibacterial substances in honey, which come from flowers when bees collect pollen, that add to honey’s effectiveness in eliminating bacteria.

Certain varieties of honey, however, can be more effective than others at healing ulcers. The key to successful ulcer treatment appears to hinge on it being natural, unprocessed honey. Two tablespoons a day should be about right for most types of honey. When the problem has eased, 1 tablespoon daily will probably be enough.
