Burkina Faso has cancelled an international arrest warrant for Ivory Coast's parliamentary speaker Guillaume Soro, the prosecutor has said.
Interpol had refused to help execute the warrant because it was linked to political crimes, Alioune Zanre added.
The warrant was for Mr Soro's alleged role in a short-lived coup in Burkina Faso in September.
Authorities listened to phone recordings linking him to the coup, reports said at the time.
Mr Soro has always denied that his was the voice on the tape.
Mr Zanre said Burkina Faso had referred the case to Ivory Coast after cancelling the warrant.
Interpol had also objected to cooperating in the arrest of Mr Soro because he may be tried in a military court in Burkina Faso, Mr Zanre added, AFP new agency reports.
The speaker is an ally of Ivory Coast's President Alassane Ouattara.
Mr Soro led the New Forces rebel group during Ivory Coast's 2011 civil war.
Former Burkina Faso Prime Minister Isaac Zida previously confirmed that Mr Soro's voice was heard in a recording advising former Burkinabe Foreign Minister Djibril Bassole on how to be successful in a coup.
In September, presidential guard officers seized power coup, overthrowing Burkina Faso's interim government.
Members of the presidential guard, set up by ex-President Blaise Compaore, said they were unhappy with the new electoral law banning candidates linked to a bid to extend the president's time in office. The attempt triggered his overthrow in October 2014.
But the coup ended just over a week later, and the reinstated interim government disbanded the presidential guard.
