Six more bodies have been retrieved in the Volta Lake following a boat tragedy over the weekend.
The latest figures take the death toll to 19 since rescue efforts began.
Confirming the figures to the media, the chairman of the Yeji Boat Owners Association, said they are optimistic that will bring to an end the rescue mission.
The remains of six children who drowned on the fateful Sunday were retrieved the same day while seven were found on Monday. After a long scour the rescue team found six more bodies on Tuesday bringing the total number to 19.
Sarfo had earlier told Starr News more accidents are likely to happen due to the low level of the Volta River.
“As for the [accidents] once in a while we will experience it...because as for the accidents it is part of the business so we are praying that such things will not happen again.”
Survivors told Starr News the boat which was carrying passengers from Nantwekope to Yeji hit a tree stump in the middle of the journey and capsized.
There were about 70 passengers on board during the tragedy, according to rescuers. The passengers were travelling to Yeji with their foodstuff to trade between Sunday and Tuesday.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.
It will be recalled that about a month ago four people lost their lives when a canoe was overloaded on the same lake.
