'Chairman Wontumi' Granted Bail

Information available to peacefmonline.com indicates that Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has been granted bail.

Chairman Wontumi is in the grips of the Ashanti Regional Police Command for allegedly assaulting the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwah and his Constituency Secretary, Collins Owusu.


He was detained on Tuesday after he turned himself in to the Police after being declared wanted.

On Wednesday, he appeared before the Asokwa District Magistrate court.

According PEACE FM Ashanti Regional correspondent, Samson K. Nyamekye, Chairman Wontumi was granted bail in the sum of GHC 20,000 with two sureties.

Judge Owusu Korkor adjourned proceedings to June 1, 2016.

Meanwhile, the MP for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwah has withdrawn the case against Chairman Wontumi.

In a letter written by counsel for the Manhyia North MP and their other client in the case, Felix Ibrahim, they indicated that their clients now intend to pursue an out of court settlement.
