My husband didn’t design new EC logo – Osei

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs Charlotte Osei, has rubbished claims that her husband designed the new logo of the Electoral Management Body.

“My husband didn't design it,” the former National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) boss said at the launch of a five-year strategic plan of the EC.

She also debunked assertions that the logo which has received major backlash from Ghanaians was plagiarized.

“We don’t feel we plagiarised their [Turkish Vocational Institute] logo,” Mrs Osei said. “I don’t think it looks like mine, I like mine better… it supports our strategic direction.”

Mrs Osei could not readily give the cost of the logo and the rebranding process of the EC.

She opined: “I don’t know how much the branding cost,” adding the figures could be accessed from the finance department of the electoral regulatory body.

Mrs Osei explained that the circles in the logo represents “unity, singular and unified in purpose” while the blue in the circle also represents the stability and independence of the Commission.

She added that the inward moving arrows in the logo “reflect all the people of Ghana and equally coming together for the common purpose- the right to select their political leadership” while the "red, gold and green colours in it represent Ghana".
