GHANA:18 Yr-Old Killed For Disrespecting Fetish Priest: Police Hunt For Gang of Three

The police in the Eastern Region have launched a manhunt for three suspects who were alleged to be part of a gang of five who killed an 18-year-old mechanic apprentice, Gideon Adjetey, for disrespecting a traditional priest.

Two of the gang of five have been arrested and are expected to be arraigned in court today. The incident occurred at Magazine, a community in the New Juaben Municipality of the region a few days ago.

Speaking to the Daily Heritage in an interview, the Okorase District Police Commander for New Juaben, ASP George Preprah Mills, explained that, the wife of the deceased person reported the incident to the police.

He said police officers were quickly dispatched to the scene and the deceased person was seen with bruises on parts of his body with severe injury on the neck, tied up and left under the scorching sun.

ASP Mills said, the deceased person was quickly rushed to the Koforidua Government Hospital but passed on shortly after arriving. He stated that, the deceased person was able to mention the names of his assailants before he died.

“So, police proceeded to arrest two of the suspects at their hideout at Aboabo, a community near Nkurakan in the Yilo Krobo District. However, the other three suspects are at large and we are searching for them.”

The Police Commander also confirmed that preliminary investigations have revealed that, the suspects earlier accused the deceased person of stealing an unspecified amount of money, but when accosted, the deceased person denied the allegation.

This compelled the suspects to consult a Traditional priest at Somanya to help reveal the person who stole the money. Later, the priest accused the deceased person of stealing the money and ordered that he appeared before the shrine which the deceased failed to do.

This infuriated the suspects who descended heavily on the deceased, beat him to pulp that led to his eventual dead. The body has been deposited at the Koforidua Government hospital Morgue pending autopsy.
