What Are You Listening To?

Have you noticed how sometimes you catch yourself saying something and immediately think how much you sounded just like a friend, a co-worker, your spouse, a teacher, your boss, etc.? You said something you’ve heard them say often. Kids are a classic example. Oh dear, that moment when in public a child says something not-so-appropriate that has heads turning and eyes questioning. The deafening

silence and that sinking feeling only the parent knows as they realize that what the child just said was something they heard them (the parent) say.

What we say (especially spontaneously) is what we hear. How we respond verbally to situations, people, challenges, etc. is a function of how our minds have been programmed. Our minds are programmed by the words we hear consistently. We hear words everyday through all sorts of media - conversations, news, movies, adverts, music, etc. They shape our thinking and perceptions and influence our behavior.
What we hear over time becomes what we say and what we say is who we are. Our words ultimately shape our world. You cannot listen to the wrong stuff and expect to be or live differently. If you desire to be Godly, you must listen consistently to Godly speaking - messages, music, conversation. If you must live by faith, you must listen to God’s word - faith comes by hearing God’s word (Romans 10:17).

In a nutshell: Your life is a product of your words. But what you are saying is a function of what you are hearing. What you hear consistently over time is what you become and how your life turns out. So be careful what you are listening to.

''Proverbs 18:20-21King James Version (KJV)

20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.''

To do: Reflect over the last 3 months. Who and/or what have you been listening to the most? Is it adding Godly value and building faith?
