Indonesian chopper crash kills 12

An Indonesian military helicopter has crashed during a mission to capture the country's most wanted militant, killing at least 12 people.

The military chief of South Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi provinces, Major General Agus Surya Bakti, says the Bell 412-EP helicopter was carrying 13 soldiers and crew when it went down late on Sunday in Poso district, after taking off from Watutau village in Central Sulawesi.

He says rescuers spotted the wreckage of the burning helicopter in a remote area of Kasiguncu village.

Authorities are investigating what caused the crash.

Rescuers are searching for another soldier still missing.
