Ken Agyapong ‘hot’ for threatening Joy FM’s Ato-Kwamena

Plain-speaking New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Agyapong, may soon find himself at the wrong side of the law, for allegedly threatening a journalist.

The Journalist, Ato-Kwamena Dadzie, a senior News Editor with Accra-based Joy FM, in a Facebook post on Tuesday February 16, confirmed filing a complaint against the MP, who also owns Accra-based Oman FM, and a number of businesses.
The MP, according to Mr. Dadzie, boldly drove to the premises of Joy FM at Kokomlemle on Tuesday, where he threatened to beat, slap and deal with him for writing unpleasant things about him.

Although it is unclear what Mr. Dadzie may have written about the MP that infuriated him, suggestions are that, a comment he made on his private Facebook page on February 6, could be the reason.

In that Facebook post on February 6, Mr. Ato-Kwamena Dadzie wrote, “I believe that since his party left power and he was no longer able to waltz through the airport with his merchandise, that drug dealing MP from the Central Region has been sniffing his own stuff and getting disproportionately high.”

Although the above post did not mention the name of any MP, it appears Mr. Agyapong considers it an indirect attack on his character, following an altercation between him and Okay FM presenter, Afia Schwazenegger, which was trending in that particular week.

Mr. Ato-Kwamena Dadzie, a journalist considered controversial by some for his bluntness, said he was disappointed in the fact that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, a lawmaker, could issue such threats on his life in that manner, when he is expected to know the laws and respect them.

In another Facebook post on Tuesday evening, Mr. Dadzie said, “Just filed a police complaint against the MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong. This morning he menacingly accosted me in front of Joy FM and threatened to slap, beat and “deal” with me if I don’t watch the things I write about him.

He violently shouted all manner of threats and expletives at me as he was restrained and led away by onlookers. It’s one of those days when I feel very ashamed to be a Ghanaian because someone like Kennedy Agyapong, frankly, shouldn’t be making laws for me.”
