Ghana Risks Re occurrence Of June 3 If...


The collection and disposal of waste, particularly solid waste, must improve if a reoccurrence of the June 3, 2015 disaster is to be avoided, the Executive Secretary to the Environmental Services Providers Association, (ESPA), Ms Ama Ofori-Antwi, has said.

Speaking at a meeting with the Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, and other executive members of association, Ms Ofori-Antwi stated that "if nothing is done to help us improve on waste management, particularly in Accra, the June 3, 2015, disaster might reoccur."

More Brazilian babies born with birth defects


Brazil says the number of babies born with suspected microcephaly or abnormally small heads since October has now reached nearly 4,000.

In the worst affected area, about 1% of newborns have suspected microcephaly.

The Brazilian authorities believe the increase is caused by an outbreak of Zika virus. Just 150 babies were born with microcephaly in 2014.

The brain condition can be deadly or cause intellectual disability and developmental delays.

Pneumococcal meningitis death toll rises to 27

Five more people have so far been confirmed dead in the Brong Ahafo region following an outbreak of Pneumococcal meningitis, taking the death toll to 27.

Over 60 people have also been hospitalized after they were infected with the deadly pneumococcal meningitis in the region.

Health experts in the area say the latest strain is more contagious and fatal than Cerebrospinal Meningitis.

President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Affail Monney has said Ghanaians have every right to scrutinise government’s acceptance of two former detainees from the Guantanomo Bay.
He said although government’s hand was tied and it could not have refused a request from the US, the interest of Ghanaians should be paramount.

ECG to end localised outages by end of March


The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured to end all localized power outages by the end of March 2016.
The Managing Director of the ECG, Mr Robert Dwamena in interview on Joy FM Tuesday morning assured that the outages which are as a result of faults with some distribution lines and equipment would be resolved in the next three months.

MoH deploys medical supplies for treatment of pneumococcal Meningitis


The Ministry of Health has deployed medical supplies to the Brong Ahafo and Northern regions to treat patients battling Pneumococcal Meningitis.
“Extra ordinary times call for extra ordinary responses. The medication we sent is quite expensive but we have told the facilities to give them free to the patients,” the Deputy Health Minister Dr Victor Bampoe told Joy News.

Rapper Mos Def ordered to leave South Africa in passport row

Mos Def Was Arrested in South Africa for Using a ‘World Passport.’ Yes, That’s a Real Thing.
The American rapper best known as Mos Def has been ordered to leave South Africa within 14 days after being arrested for breaking immigration laws.
Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, was held at Cape Town International Airport on Thursday after trying to leave the country with unrecognised papers.

Court Throws Out Case Against Zanetor Rawlings


An Accra High Court has dismissed a case brought by some members of the NDC in Klottey Korle constituency seeking to annul the results of the parliamentary primaries of the NDC in the area.
