Central Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has called on city authorities to compensate the displaced settlers at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra.
Following a demolition exercise at the vicinity, several residents took to the streets and marched to the State House in protest against the exercise being directed by the AMA Boss, Alfred Oko Vanderpuiye.
The taskforce razed structures down at Sodom and Gomorrah, hence displacing the affected ones.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on "Kokrokoo", Allotey Jacobs urged the city boss and authorities to discuss the way forward in securing shelter for the residents who were affected by the demolition exercise.
In his view, the residents should be well resettled to avoid deeping their anger at government.
He was worried the exercise may inflame passions since to him, “Agbogbloshie (at Sodom and Gomorrah) is a war zone. Agbogbloshie is a war zone! If there will be any trouble at the North, watch Agbogbloshie."
He further feared the protest by the people may affect national security.
This is because, to him, "even for the people to move from where they’re to Parliament House which is the symbol of our sovereignty as a nation coupled with such commotion should be a national security concern.”
He however sympathized with the affected residents saying "they’re human beings…Don’t let us be so emotional. Yes, it has already happened. People will resist change. People naturally will resist change but if you’ve used force, so what next?”
