Top Ghanaian Players Turning Bench Warmers And Struggling To Make Squad For Games Abroad

Week after week some top Ghanaian players lose their places in their respective teams abroad as they either turn bench warmers or fail to make their club’s squad for games altogether.

The recent past weekend was a reminder of a worrying trend for Black Stars head coach Avram Grant who needs all of his regulars to get regular game time to keep their form.

Highlight of the weekend was 2015 AFCON Player of the tournament winner Christian Atsu. The Chelsea loanee once again failed to make the Everton squad when they downed Burnley 1-0 at the Goodison Park. Atsu’s stats in the EPL is still poor as he has played just 110 minutes out of a possible 2970 minutes since the start of the season.
In Germany, Kevin-Prince Boateng continues to battle it out for a place in Roberto Di Matteo’s Schalke 04 side. The former AC Milan star midfielder did not travel with his Schalke 04 side in their German Bundesliga game against Wolfsburg.

In Turkey, one-time Ghana fans-favourite Abdul Majeed Waris was left to watch the game from the bench as his Trabzonspor side recorded a home victory over rivals Galatasaray.

Experienced legs Derek Boateng was axed from the Eibar squad that played against Celta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga. The former Liberty Professionals midfielder seems to be paying the price for his shambolic show against Real Madrid some weeks back.

Sulley Muntari, who has asked to be exludded from the Milan squad until the end of the season, did not also play a part for AC Milan as he has asked the Italian club not to use him again until the end of the season where he is expected to leave.

Richmond Boakye-Yiadom who recently scored for the Black Stars in an international friendly against Senegal warmed the bench while Michael Essiencould not make the Milan squad for games.

The trend is becoming worrying for the Black Stars technical team.
