A combined team of heavily armed police and military personnel has been deployed to the Brong Ahafo Region town of Sakore following a bloody clash between supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The supporters of the two political parties attacked each other with clubs and machetes last Monday, reports indicate.
A supporter of NDC Kwame Fosu, 27, also known as Kwame Matso, according GNA reports, suffered multiple cutlass wounds and has been rushed to the Goaso Government Hospital.
Assemblyman for Sakore North, Stephen Akowua, said the reason behind the clash is unknown, but said majority of young men have fled the town.
ACP Patrick Adusei-Sarpong, Deputy Regional Police Commander, told Joy News Wednesday morning, although calm has returned to the Sakore township, police is on high alert to avert an escalation of the violence.
Describing the situation as unfortunate, he revealed that an investigation has also commenced to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
