SIM-box fraud: CJ transfers GREDA boss' case to financial court

Chief Justice Georgina Wood on Tuesday ordered the transfer of the criminal case involving the former CEO of the Ghana Real Estates Development Association (GREDA) from the Magistrate court to the financial and tax court, reports Wilberforce Asare of Starr News.

The case was, therefore, not heard on Tuesday as had been scheduled.

Dr. Alexander Tweneboah who is standing trial for SIM-boxing will reappear at a later date.

Dr Tweneboah and nine others were nabbed by a joint Anti-Telecommunication Fraud Taskforce in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service for engaging in the illegal act.

The former GREDA boss was granted bail by the Magistrate Court at the last hearing.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges of providing unlicensed telecom services and illegally possessing telecom equipment.

Dr Tweneboah and his syndicate are believed to have defrauded the state to the tune of $33 million through their illegal activities.
