Police in Bolgatanga in the Upper East region are on high alert over a possible outbreak of violence in the area.
Tension is heightening among factions in the Bolgatanga chieftaincy dispute as the two royal gates failed to settle their differences on who the rightful heir to the Bolga throne is.
Some angry members of the rival factions on Friday issued a stern warning to some chiefs they accuse of meddling in the dispute to stay away or face their wrath.
But President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Naba Sigri Bewong has assured the feuding parties that the mediation team, which is currently working to resolve the dispute would remain impartial and objective with its work.
At a press conference last week, he denied rumours that the House was taking sides in the unresolved chieftaincy dispute that left five people, including chiefs severely injured in a surprise attack with machetes a few weeks ago in the regional capital.
