Coca Cola products expiring Saturday flood shanty Bukom, James Town

The Coca Cola Depot at Odododiodoo has flooded the shanty community of James Town and its surrounding environments with coca cola products which are due to expire on Saturday March 7, 2015.

A bottle of the 200 ml coke which sells for 80 pesewas is now being sold for 50 pesewas or less – 30 pesewas – by retailers who are trooping to the Depot to take huge stocks of the fizzy drink which is near expiration.

StarrFMonline.com's investigations in the community revealed that the Depot is aware that the drinks will expire in two days but its attendants were still going ahead to sell huge quantities at very low wholesale prices in Coca Cola branded trucks.

StarrFMonline.com’s investigative team was able to buy a crate of the drink for Ghc20 instead of the normal price of Ghc 10 since the team had no empty bottles.

A crate of coke contains about 24 bottles of the drink.

It is, however, not clear if the Coca Cola Company itself is aware of the expiration date of the products which have flooded Bukom and James Town – areas enmeshed in extreme poverty.
