Qatar Airways Confirms Start of Daily Flight to Accra Next Year


President John Dramani Mahama, on his second day of a state visit to Qatar, has held discussions with the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, over some viable sectors of cooperation between Ghana and Qatar.

President Mahama and the Prime Minister exchanged views on the oil and gas sector, to how Ghana can benefit from Qatar’s impressive history and expertise in the sector.


President Mahama praised Qatar as a model in developmental transformation, especially in the way that Qatar invests strategically in the future of its citizens, through the establishment and management of a Sovereign Wealth Fund. The two leaders discussed ways of sharing knowledge in this context.

This was in a statement issued by Ben Dotsei Malor, Head of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson at the FlagStaff House.

According to the statement, president stated that Ghana will be the best-placed destination to serve as a hub for Qatari cooperation, investment and economic activities for the West African sub-region and Africa.

The statement said, President Mahama urged the Ruler of Qatar to open a Qatar embassy in Accra, adding that Ghana will also open a mission in Doha.

In a related development, Qatar Airways has confirmed its preparations to start daily flights to Ghana, starting from the new year, 2015.

This confirmation was given to President Mahama on Sunday afternoon when the Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, Mr. Akbar Al-Baker called on the President.
