Ace broadcaster Kwesi Kyei Darkwah has been officially charged with rape.
The CEO of the Finest Productions was arrested on Saturday night at the African Regent Hotel following the rape incident of a 19-year-old girl identified as Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson.
He has been in the custody of the Airport Police Command since his arrest and was only sent to Court for the first time Tuesday December 30, 2014.
According to the charge sheet, the 49-year-old father of two – a teenage girl and a 21-year-old youngman – has been charged with rape.
The sheet read: “...For that you on the 27th day of December 2014, at about 9 o’ clock pm, at the African Regent Hotel, Accra in the Greater Accra region, and within the jurisdiction of this court, did have carnal knowledge of one Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson, a female aged 19 years without her consent.”
The District Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs Adwoa Akyaamaa Ofosu denied the fashion icon bail. The prosecution was led by ACP Atimbila.
Rape is a non-bailable offence in Ghana’s statutes. A convicted Rapist risks between five and 25 years.
