Court remands KKD till Jan 8 for rape

Fashion icon Kwasi Kyei Darkwah has been remanded in Police custody till January 8, 2015 by a Court.

KKD appeared in a Magistrate court in Accra Tuesday for the first time following his arrest and detention for alleged sexual assault against a 19-year-old girl.

The CEO of the Finest Productions will therefore be spending the next week behind cells at the Airport Police Command.

One of KKD’s Lawyers, Nana Asante Bediatuo had earlier said his client had a strong case for bail.

In Court Tuesday, however, a different Lawyer Gary Nimako argued that his client was not a “flight risk” and therefore the court could rest assured and grant him bail.

However, the presiding judge, Adwoa Akyaamaa Ofosu denied the fashion icon bail. The prosecution was led by ACP Atimbila.

The father of the teenage girl was also present in Court Tuesday.

KKD was arrested on Saturday night at the African Regent Hotel for allegedly sexually assaulting the teenage girl who spent some time with him.

He has been in the custody of the Airport Police Command since his arrest.

The 49-year-old father of two has not denied having sex with the 19-year-old girl, but he has refuted claims that he sexually assaulted her.

Rape is a non-bailable offence in Ghana. Convicted rapists risk between five and 25 years in prison.
