Ebola survivors should wait at least three months before having sex: CDC

NR

The good news: You survived Ebola. The bad news: Health experts say you shouldn’t have sex for months.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends at least three months of abstinence for Ebola survivors, and urges condom use if you can’t hold out.

The virus can linger in a victim’s semen for at least 70 days, according to the World Health Organization.

It was not clear whether Dr. Craig Spencer, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in New York, was intimate with his fiancée since his Oct. 17 return from Guinea. She has been quarantined.

Blood, vomit and feces are largely behind the rapid spread of the disease in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Transmission from semen, urine and breast milk is less common.
